Texas Law Firm Diversity
Summit
May 15th 7:45am – 11:45am
According to recent research of the National Association
for Law Placement (NALP), only 17.38% of the 3,521 law partners
of major law firms in the state of Texas were women, and 4.49%
were persons of color. Of the 3,801 associates of the same
responding law firms, women constituted 40.78% while persons
of color comprised 12.99%. These numbers suggest that, relative
to the attorney population as a whole, and relative to the
demographic composition of law school graduates, women attorneys
and attorneys of color continue to be under-represented in
major law firms in Texas. The First Annual Texas Legal Diversity
Summit will discuss relevant issues related to creating and
promoting a more diverse environment within major law firms
and corporate legal departments in the Texas legal community.
The topics that will be covered include:
- Recruitment
- Diversity Scorecard
- Retention/Promotion
- Mentoring
- Development
- The role of General Counsels
- Leadership
- Diversity Best Practices
- Pipeline
